LKN Magazine has published a profile of our partner Frances S. Knox, written by Martie Emory under the headline "Leading With Heart." It covers considerably more ground than an award announcement, and it is worth reading in full.
A few things in it will be new even to people who have worked with Frances for years. She grew up on a small farm in Cabarrus County, near Odell School, and credits her parents and her teachers for the values she carried into practice. She did not come to law early: she started at Wake Forest School of Law at 41, commuting from Lake Norman to Winston-Salem and back every day.
The piece also reports something our earlier announcement did not. Frances is the first recipient of the Women in Business Award from the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, not simply the 2026 one. She accepted it at the Chamber's Professional Women's Conference in September.
Frances practices personal injury, wills and estate work, and she talks in the profile about how differently each matter arrives even when the law is the same. On what that work is for, she puts it plainly: "We see sorrow, and hope to end with happiness."
She gives much of the credit for how the firm operates to her late husband and our founder, Eddie Knox. His view was that a firm handles many cases while a client has only one, and that is still the standard the firm measures itself against. Frances mentions she continues to hear from people Eddie helped two decades ago who remember how he treated them.
The profile covers her work outside the firm as well: Bethel Presbyterian Church, the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, and the Lincoln Economic Development Organization. It also tells the story of Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club in Denver, which she and Eddie helped develop after he went to golf course architecture school in the early nineties, on land they believed in roughly twenty years before the growth arrived. Members there now run an Angel Tree project for children in Lincoln County and make blankets for a local orphanage.
Asked about the award itself, Frances turned it toward everyone else, which will surprise nobody who knows her.
